Record Sales For The Ram 1500
US Sales of Ram pickups were up 26% in March 2014, the truck’s best March sales performance in 10 years and its 47th consecutive month of year-on-year sales gains – the total sales also saw the Ram 1500 outperforming its nearest competitor by 285 units, once again proving the brand’s position as a legitimate, serious player in the full size truck segment.
And the Ram 1500 keeps on winning prestigious accolades – it has just been named a 2014 Automobile Magazine All-Star by the publication’s editorial staff for the second year in a row and the fourth time in the past five years.
Automobile Magazine chooses its All-Stars from the complete range of 2014 model year vehicles on sale in the US, including passenger cars, sports cars, sport-utilities, minivans and trucks. The magazine’s collective editorial staff and contributors cast their private votes after three days of driving a variety of 2014 contenders.
“The Automobile Magazine All-Star award doesn’t just focus on all-new trucks, but all current model trucks, and the results place our Ram 1500 at the top, for four out of the last five years – the 2014 Ram 1500 is really making its mark,” said Paul Outhwaite, Chief Operations Officer of United Motors Company (UMC), the sole distributor of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep® and Ram in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the largest independent distributor of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram in the world.
For 2014, the Ram 1500 offers buyers best-in-class fuel efficiency, new technology and new features without sacrificing capability. Ram 1500 – the most recognisable pickup on the road – marks a milestone for Ram as this truck delivers a truckload of pioneering and fuel-saving systems. Equipped with the legendary 5.7-litre HEMI® V8 engine, it offers the best powertrain in the industry, known for its reliability.
“Chrysler doesn’t get the credit it deserves for what it’s done in the truck segment,” said Michael Jordan, West Coast Editor – Automobile Magazine. “First, it re-invented the way trucks look with its big-rig grille. Then it was the first to offer a cabin that held more people and more stuff. Later they did a chassis that would both steer and stop, and now they’ve delivered a great ride with air springs.”
The 2014 Ram 1500 features first-in-segment technologies: eight-speed automatic transmission, stop-start system, thermal management system, pulse-width modulation and active aerodynamics, including grille shutters and active air suspension. An award winning interior and the next-generation Uconnect® Access system keep passengers comfortable and connected. With best-in-class ride and handling and best-in-class aerodynamics, the 2014 Ram 1500 delivers unmatched content, performance and capability to truck buyers.
Motor Trend has also named the Ram 1500 “Truck of the Year” in both 2013 and 2014 – the first time any vehicle has won this prestigious honour for two consecutive years – judges ran nine contenders for the title through a series of tests, and when the votes were cast, the Ram 1500 emerged the clear winner.
On the customer front, Strategic Vision named the Ram 1500 as one of its “Most Loved Vehicles in America”. Consumers were surveyed on whether they Hate or Love their vehicles, or particular aspects of the vehicle and the experiences they deliver. The best-of-the-best earned the titles of “Most Loved Vehicles in America,” reflecting how hard people can fall in love with what they drive.
The Ram 1500’s success also continued in MotorWeek, US television’s original automotive magazine’s annual list of Drivers’ Choice Awards, earning the title of Best Pickup Truck for the second year in a row.
MotorWeek has judged the best new cars and trucks of the year for the past 33 years. Its annual Drivers’ Choice Awards looks at vehicles from a buyer’s point of view, judging on value and reliability, while also taking the latest trends and innovation into consideration.
“MotorWeek is a well-established source of information for consumers and we’re thrilled to accept their Drivers’ Choice Award for the Ram 1500,” said Outhwaite. “This award was earned in one of the most competitive segments in the automotive industry. Third party recognition from MotorWeek affirms the hard work and commitment of Ram employees to deliver great products.”
Elsewhere, Autobytel.com has named the 2014 Ram 1500 “Pickup Truck of the Year”, saying that the award winning Ram 1500 continues to bring fuel efficiency and tech in a bold package to the value shoppers and accomplishment seekers who want to get the job done right. And during the New York Motor Show, the popular automotive website Edmunds.com named the 2014 Ram 1500 a “Top Rated Vehicle on Edmunds.com” – “Ram pickups earn our top rating on the strength of their excellent chassis and thoughtfully designed cabs,” said Scott Oldham, Editor in Chief of Edmunds.com.
“The new Ram 1500 is the most capable, best-looking half-ton pickup in the world and delivers best-in-class fuel efficiency, new technology and new features along with an upgraded interior and exterior,” said Outhwaite. “We’ve changed every area of the truck – from a newly designed frame with air suspension, to a new eight-speed transmission to a new interior with the next-generation Uconnect® system. With best-in-class towing and payload, best-in-class ride and handling and best-in-class aerodynamics, the latest Ram 1500 delivers unmatched content, performance and capability to our customers.”
The Ram 1500 is powered by the legendary 5.7-litre HEMI® V8 with MDS (fuel-saving cylinder shut-off) and VVT that delivers 395hp, 407 lb.-ft. of torque and best-in-class fuel economy for V8 trucks, linked to either a standard 6-speed or available new class-exclusive TorqueFlite 8-speed transmission.
Owners will appreciate the innovative new rotary e-shift dial that replaces both column and floor shifters on trucks equipped with the new TorqueFlite 8-speed transmission. This exclusive rotary e-shift dial enables intuitive operation with a direct and confident feel – the convenient, dash-mounted, easy-to-understand and operate system provides total control of the sophisticated eight-speed transmission. Ram’s innovative approach to electronic shifters allows quick blind-shift transitions from “Reverse” to “Drive” and also creates additional space for more storage in the console.
